When we talk about Danish designer in the mid-century of 20th,Arne Jacobsen,Finn Juhl and Hans Wegner will come to people mind first, but people generally forget another famous furniture designer Verner Panton, who not only brought revolutionary thinking to space design and technique development, but also broke the traditional technique and created an unprecedent plastic chair,Panton Chair, which shocked the world. He was recognized as the most creative and most influential furniture designer and interior designer in 20th century.

Verna Panton was born on Feb.13 of 1926.In 1947-1951,he studied in Royal Danish Academy of Art,after graduation, he worked in the designer office created by Arne Jocobsen, another famous furniture designer in Denmark. He participated in the series of original design works of Arne Jocobsen, which had great influence on Verna Panton’s design ideology.

Since Verna Panton’s ambition on furniture design, after working two years for Arne Jocobsen,he opened his own design office. He became famous for his consulting service to architecture such as Cardboard house and Plastic house. And at the same time, he designed some chairs that were very unconventional with other chairs. Also he was deeply absorbed by the plastic. He thought to create a comfortable chair made in one piece and can be used anywhere. In 1960,he designed the most famous single-form injection-moulded plastic chair(also called S chair or Stacking chair). But since the technique difficulties, this chair was not been produced massively until Verner Panton met Vitra.Massive production for this chair began in 1967 and the original model is kept in the Museum of Modern Art in New York.Until today, this chair is still under production.
